Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: it is necessary to stop Searching Divergent National Ideas, instead there should appear One Principal National Idea of Ukraine - Saving our Nation

In the course of the working visit to Sumy region, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, called for making several steps on the legislative level to increase the level of medical services in Ukraine.

"First of all, legislative decisions shall be adopted to state that all the public authority officials and dignitaries should have their treatment exclusively in Ukraine, then the hospitals would receive all the necessary equipment and service", the Chairman declared at the press conference. Thus, only Sumy region lacks nearly UAH 430 million for the needs of the medical care, while the educational sphere lacks UAH 180 million.

The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasised the necessity of suspending the search for divergent national ideas, "as it is necessary to provide implementation for one and the most principal national idea saving our people. Including newly born children and the elderly", he stated.

Speaking on the problems connected with the oncological diseases, V. Lytvyn announced that at the present moment the dialogue with the Ministry on Public Health of Ukraine regarding establishment of the Spine Bone Transplantation Centre in Ukraine and purchase of the necessary equipment for all the regional centres was ongoing.

According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, it is necessary to focus on the health protection in Ukraine and direct all the resources.

Asked by the journalists about the development of charity in Ukraine, V. Lytvyn stated that he was convinced that "charity in our state would be real, provided this sphere gets actual governmental support for people to see that state realizes the problem and makes everything possible to solve it; then people will be willing to engage themselves in the charity projects."

Except the official policy, the authorities, according to V. Lytvyn, "are supposed to demonstrate charity and take care of medical centres; then it returns a hundredfold to them."

V. Lytvyn pointed out the necessity of developing volunteer movement and reminded that on 13 April, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a corresponding bill in the first reading. This bill was submitted in the scope of preparation for EURO-2012, the Head of the Parliament stated. However, "this issue should be tackled in a wider scope: European football championship will finish, while volunteering will continue its activity", he stated. "It is necessary to support enthusiasts of this movement; they should enjoy certain guarantees and opportunities. They should be aware of the fact the state supports them and appreciates their activity." V. Lytvyn expects that this Law would be adopted in its entirety till the end of this month.
